Biomar HQ Trondheim
An office landscape reflecting the rhythm of the sea
When BioMar, a global leader in development of fish food, needed more space in Trondheim, it became more than just a relocation — it became an opportunity to redefine the work environment. With the slogan “Let’s innovate Aquaculture” at its core, BioMar set out to create a workplace that fosters innovation, collaboration, and a sense of belonging.

A functional workspace tailored to BioMar’s needs
In developing BioMar’s new headquarters in Trondheim, we placed strong emphasis on a layout that supports the company’s workflows and encourages an efficient and inspiring workday.
The spatial organisation is designed to balance the need for focused work and collaboration. Open-plan areas are complemented by quiet rooms and meeting spaces of various sizes, giving employees the flexibility to choose their environment based on the task at hand. Social zones and informal meeting points are strategically placed to promote knowledge sharing and spontaneous interaction.
At the heart of the office lies the canteen — a natural gathering place where fresh lunches are served daily by the in-house chef, Sigrid. Surrounded by meeting rooms, lounge areas and the reception, the canteen underlines its role as the social and functional hub of daily life at BioMar.
Material choices such as oak veneer, glass, chrome, leather and wool textiles have been carefully selected to create a tactile and cohesive visual identity, one that reflects BioMar’s strong connection to the sea. The colour palette includes crisp white, black, blue and green, with accents of energetic orange and yellow tones — giving each space a distinct and vibrant character.
Through a holistic approach to planning and design, we’ve created a work environment that not only embodies BioMar’s values, but also enables innovation, collaboration, and wellbeing in the everyday.
Inspiration
The interior is inspired by the sea and its organic forms, expressed through both materials and colours. This creates an atmosphere that echoes BioMar’s ties to aquaculture and reinforces the company’s identity on every level.
Materials
The material palette combines oak veneer, glass, chrome, leather and wool textiles to build a strong tactile and visual identity. The colours — white, black, blue, and green — are enriched with bright accents of orange and yellow, giving the rooms a distinctive tone. Polished surfaces are set against raw textures, adding depth and sensory contrast throughout.
Symbolism and Visual Identity
In this project, we worked intentionally with visual references tied to BioMar’s core business. The flooring is composed of triangular modules that form the subtle silhouette of a fish — a direct nod to the company’s foundation in aquaculture.
This motif is also echoed in the shape of the canteen chair backs, whose soft, organic lines resemble the movement of a fish tail in water. Small, deliberate details that ground the interior in BioMar’s identity and give the space an extra layer of meaning.
