Loft apartment Oslo

When the client purchased this attic apartment in a classic turn-of-the-century building in Adamstuen, it felt cramped, worn down, and poorly utilized. Our task was to rethink the space – both spatially and visually – and create a cohesive floor plan where every square meter serves a clear purpose. The result is a complete transformation: a bright, open, and carefully composed home, considered down to the last detail.

A Home with New Flow and Function

We were responsible for reconfiguring the floor plan, furnishing concept, color and material palette, as well as developing a complete lighting scheme. All zones were relocated and repositioned to create better spatial flow and a more intuitive movement through the apartment. Upon entering, you’re met by a custom-designed niche housing wardrobe, washer/dryer, and storage – a space-saving solution that also acts as a divider toward the TV area in the living room.

The kitchen, living and dining spaces now blend seamlessly into one continuous social zone, which feels generous and open despite the apartment’s modest size. The new layout also accommodates a bedroom with an integrated home office, an upgraded bathroom, and access to a bright, west-facing terrace.

A key part of the project has been working with color and materiality to create warmth and cohesion. The palette is inspired by muted Nordic nature tones – golden masala, soft mint, and calm greens – which harmonize beautifully with pale oak flooring, beige kitchen fronts, and a subtly textured Silestone countertop. Accents in bronze add a touch of understated elegance and reinforce the overall sense of quality and balance.

Lighting was planned with equal focus on function and atmosphere. Integrated downlights in key zones are combined with decorative fixtures and wall lamps to create a layered and homely expression – particularly important in an apartment with sloped ceilings and multiple levels. Large skylights provide generous natural light and enhance the sense of height and openness throughout the space.

This apartment demonstrates how thoughtful changes in layout, materials and detailing can transform a compact space into a home with both functionality and character. A place to breathe – in the heart of the city.
